From Greg Slusher's Facebook:

Chuck Poss was kind enough to book "OKRA" on this festival and we were "smokin!" Doug made his own sticks that were massive and Steve had the best tone going. Dave Gunter was also in the first line-up of "OKRA" but moved on to a great C+W band. Doug was way ahead of his time with us doing a killer version of Joni Mitchell''s Big Yellow Taxi. I sang it and we really put a "Cream" edge to it. It was a great day, to say the least!

those were the days (OKRA circa 1970, victory stadium roanoke)

we though they would never end... history was in the making right here... well, for roanoke anyway. i will be posting pictures and ephemera here to simplify things for those who want to follow. we were young, loud, and beautiful, so we didn't need real jobs. did I mention loud? my ears still ring... notice how my drum sticks had no beads on the end - that's because I made my own. beads on others kept breaking off. why bother. as i remember i played flute on two songs - while keeping the beat with my feet. I got no sex afterwards though, as one would think with such a skill. oh yes - victory stadium is gone now. see what I mean about history...

organization will change as a blog is a work in progress... feel free to add... you can click on the picture too see it larger and download it. tell your friends, it can get interesting. more to come... I need a drink...
